Measurement induced transitions in light-matter and long- range systems

Monitored many-body quantum systems show a rich phenomenology that is invisible at the level of their average state, the density matrix. Measurement-induced phase transitions have been discovered in a variety of systems, ranging from quantum circuits in the presence of projective measurements to unraveled dynamics of open systems. A key challenge in observing measurement-induced phase transitions is related to post-selection. After an overview of critical phenomena in monitored systems, I will discuss prospects for mitigating the post-selection barrier in light-matter and long-range interacting systems. I will conclude by going beyond the paradigm of quantum trajectories and exploring whether a qualitatively analogous entanglement transition emerges in a single unitary evolution of the combined system-bath setup, without monitoring the dynamics of the system.
