Quantum computing—the use of quantum resources to accelerate specific algorithms and information-processing tasks—has undergone remarkable development in recent years. However, it remains in its early stages, both in terms of software and hardware, and the search for practical applications is still ongoing. In this talk, we will first review some fundamental concepts of quantum computing, then discuss applications in quantum machine learning as well as algorithms for solving partial differential equations (PDEs). Finally, we will highlight some of the open questions that continue to drive research in the field.
