ITSASAMPLE
Nanoscience is science on a very small-scale: from 0.1 to 100 nanometres. It focuses on the study and handling of matter at the level of atoms and molecules, allowing advances in areas such as medicine, electronics, energy and materials. One of the key tools which has allowed advances in our understanding and capacity to modify matter has been the electronic microscope. These microscopes are the hands and eyes of research teams in revealing the characteristics of objects that are invisible to the naked eye.
ITSASAMPLE is the result of collaboration between the Aquarium, CIC nanoGUNE and PIE. The aim of this exhibition is to take us inside what is an unknown world to most people, giving us the chance to observe what our eyes cannot see. The samples of biological organisms taken from various marine species were captured by the nanoGUNE electronic microscopes, giving us access to astounding biological organisations. These images not only offer scientifically valuable information in studying such species, but are also in our opinion of almost celestial beauty.
When and where can you visit the exhibition
Friday and Saturday - 16:00 - 19:00
The exhibition can be visited from October 9 to November 9 in the Nautilus room of the Aquarium of Donostia.
The room will be open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays, from 16:00 to 19:00. Outside these hours, it can be visited from inside the Aquarium, for which it will be necessary to buy a ticket to the museum.
The exact location of the direct entrance to the exhibition can be found following this link.
Guided tours
In addition, we are organizing two guided tours for small groups of up to 20 people. The walk-through will be guided by nanoGUNE's electron microscopy specialist Oksana Yurkevich, the main author of the images in the exhibition.
- Wednesday, October 16 18:00
- Wednesday, October 30 18:00
It is necessary to register using the form below.
Visits-workshop for families
- Saturday, 19 october
Short guided tour in which we will be able to see some fantastic images made by nanoGUNE specialists. Afterwards, we will make a craft in which we will interpret with clay some microscopic life forms. It is not necessary to bring any material, as it is provided at the Aquarium itself.
* The Aquarium is not visited, the activity will take place in the exhibition hall NAUTILUS (up the stairs to Paseo Nuevo).
