nanoGUNE recives the María de Maeztu distinction

Ikerbasque Professor Luis Hueso, accompanied by the Director General of nanoGUNE, José M. Pitarke, has collected the distinction Maria de Maeztu for research excellence on behalf of the Basque research center in nanoscience. This distinction will bring nanoGUNE a financial envelope of 500,000 euros per year for four years.

The Spanish Research Agency has granted 7 'Severo Ochoa' and 6 'María de Maeztu' distinctions to centers and research units for a total of 40 million euros. Selected by an international evaluation committee, the chosen centers and units stand out for their high competitiveness, ambitious strategic plans, top-quality scientific production and a great capacity to attract national and international talent. The Secretary of State for R & D, Carmen Vela, has presided over the award ceremony of the distinctions, aimed at the institutional recognition of scientific research of excellence in Spain.
