Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Festival in Donostia-San Sebastian
The 10ALaMenos9 Festival is aiming in an enjoyable and exciting way to bring all sectors of the public closer to the nanometric scale and its effects.
So the CIC nanoGUNE research centre has organised various activities: workshops, lectures, exhibitions, open days, forums and the 2nd National Congress on Nanopopularisation, etc. The 10ALaMenos9 Festival, co-funded by FECYT - Ministry of Economy and Competiticness, will be held from 4 to 8 April in Donostia-San Sebastian as well as in Zaragoza and Barcelona.
The enrolment period for all the activities in the programme is now open via the festival’s website: www.10alamenos9.es
PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES IN DONOSTIA-SAN SEBASTIAN
THURSDAY 7 APRIL
CIC nanoGUNE
9:30 - 11:00 Nanoforum
In this session we will be reviewing current knowledge on the toxicity of nanomaterials for human health and the environment as well as the ways of assessing the risk. To do this, we will be supported by the knowledge and experience of the EHS Advance initiative developed in the Basque Autonomous Community (region) to assist the business base in the safe use of nanomaterials.
12:00 - 13:30 Nanoscience Workshop
This workshop sets out to show some of the products and applications of nanotechnology already on the market. Through simple, easy-to-understand experiments we are aiming to bring the possibilities offered by nanotechnology closer to the general public.
18:00 – 19:00 Nanoseminar
Introduction to Nanotechnology, Luis Hueso, CIC nanoGUNE. An informative seminar to introduce to the attendees the basic theoretical and practical concepts relating to nanoscience and nanotechnology.
19:00 – 20:00 Open Day at CIC nanoGUNE
This activity is designed to bring the everyday work of researchers closer to the general public. So there will be a guided visit to get to know the nanoGUNE labs at first hand.
FRIDAY 8 APRIL
CIC nanoGUNE
9:30 – 16:00 2nd National Congress on Nanopopularisation
The congress aims to involve the attendees in a constructive dialogue on the opportunities and repercussions of nanotechnology. They will have the chance to understand and discuss the widespread, potential impact of these new technologies.
FROM 18 TO 29 APRIL
CARLOS SANTAMARIA CENTRE
Exhibition “A walk through the nanoworld”
On display will be spectacular images obtained using hi-tech microscopes that are common in the world of nanotechnology, such as the Atomic Force Microscope or the Electron Microscope. The aim of this exhibition is to popularise nanoscience in a visual and accessible way for all sectors of the general public.
