Organic-inorganic protein hybrids
Laminated heterogeneous catalysts for glucose detection. Applying the principles of biomineralization, proteins are embedded into inorganic skeletal structures resulting in hybrid materials with structural and catalytic functionality. The micrometric structures in this image arose by mixing chemically modified glucose oxidase enzyme and Co(NO3)2 salt in a phosphate buffer. The protein hybrids were used for the quantification and detection of glucose. This image was taken on 14 November 2019, with the Helios 450S FIB scanning electron microscope from CIC NanoGUNE.
