Representatives of the Basque Government and the technology and research centers in the BRTA, Basque Research and Technology Alliance, visit the nanoGUNE laboratories to see first-hand the new equipment acquired thanks to funding by the Basque Government's Azpitek program.

During the next two days, the Miramar Palace will be the international headquarters of a conference that seeks to bring together international experts with the aim of addressing inequalities and gender gaps in the scientific-technological field.

In a recent article published in Physical Review Letters (Phys. Rev. Lett. 131, 116701 (2023)) and selected as an Editor’s suggestion, Mikel Quintana and Andreas Berger from the Nanomagnetism group at nanoGUNE succeeded in experimentally detecting and quantifying critical scaling near the dynamic phase transition (DPT) for the first time.

The Basque Government Minister for Equality, Justice and Social Policies Nerea Melgosa, and the Director of Emakunde (the Basque Institute for Women) Miren Elgarresta, have presented the International Congress “"Equality, science and technology. For a paradigm shift” to be held on October 23 and 24 at the Miramar Palace in Donostia-San Sebastian; they were accompanied at the CIC nanoGUNE center by the Director of nanoGUNE Txema Pitarke and the Director of Digital Identity of the University of Deusto Lorena Fernández. The Lehendakari (President of the Basque Government) Iñigo Urkullu will be inaugurating a congress set to bring together international experts with a view to addressing existing inequalities and gender gaps and the transformations needed to systemically incorporate equality between women and men in the field of science and technology.  

In an event that brought together students, tutors and staff of the research center, nanoGUNE interns ended their two-month immersion in the fascinating world of nanoscience.  

MYRUNS ENGINEERING SPORTS, SL (MYRUNS), a Basque company led by its founder and largest shareholder, Xabier García Roldán, and dedicated to the development of solutions for the digitalization of companies using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, has acquired 80% of the also Basque Evolgene Genomics, a spin-off of nanoGUNE.

This week we have proudly welcomed a group of 12 undergraduate students who will join our summer internship program. 

“When we developed the near-field optical nanoimaging and nanospectroscopy tools, which we named s-SNOM and nano-FTIR, I never thought that they could have such wide application potential”, says Ikerbasque Research Professor Rainer Hillenbrand when asked about the evolution of his field of research. This week, from 6 to 9^th June, we welcome about 70 researchers eager to learn how to get the most out of the techniques, because San Sebastian hosts the Near-fiel Optical Nanoscopy Summer School, organized by CIC nanoGUNE, Ensemble 3 and Attocube.

The Basque nanoscience research center CIC nanoGUNE is developing specific techniques to functionalize fibers and fabrics in the textile industry. This promising line of research, led by the Nanomaterials group, is part of an Elkartek project in which the Gaiker technology center, which tests the final properties of the treated fabrics, and the textile company Andromeda Moto, which supplies the fabrics, are also participating.
